  Market participants were cautious, however, as Washington offered few direct answers on just when the conflict could end. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the U.S. would conduct its most intense air attacks of the campaign on Tuesday. Meanwhile, responses from Tehran remained defiant.
  Brent oil futures for May fell 12.3% to $86.77 a barrel by 12:54 ET (16:54 GMT), while West Texas Intermediate crude futures dropped 12.6% to $82.83 per barrel.

  Oil’s manic Monday
  The declines in crude came after Trump said in multiple instances on Monday that an end to the Iran war was close, although he did not provide a clear timeline.
  Trump also cautioned Iran against blocking the Strait of Hormuz, warning of dire military consequences for the Islamic state.
  Iran responded by stating that it will block the key shipping lane as long as U.S. and Israeli strikes continue, and that Tehran will decide when the war will end.
  Trump raised the possibility of allowing some waivers on oil sales by sanctioned entities, chiefly Russia, to help stem supply disruptions in the Middle East. Last week, Washington was seen allowing India to purchase Russian oil for at least a month.
  
  Oil’s manic Monday initially saw prices soaring to nearly $120 a barrel after U.S. and Israeli forces struck several Iranian energy facilities over the weekend and Iran named a new, hardline supreme leader.
  Iran retaliated by attacking oil infrastructure in several countries across the Middle East, while also striking ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz – a channel that accounts for roughly 20% of the world’s crude supply.
  But crude swiftly curbed early gains and ended Monday down after Trump hinted that the war was nearing an end and amid a host of reports about how major global economies planned to handle potential oil supply shocks.
  The U.S. and the Group of Seven countries were reportedly considering a release of emergency petroleum reserves to temper potential inflation bumps from the Iran conflict.
  "Despite suggestions the war might be over, we cannot ignore the historic tensions that have existed in what is such an oil-vital region – both in previous decades, and indeed, the past year. I expect volatility in the oil market will likely continue – with the recent stabilization being just the latest iteration of that turbulence – and this will no doubt impose grave inflationary pressures on every global economy, including the U.S.," Yerbol Orynbayev, former World Bank governor of Kazakhstan, told Investing.com.
  Oil maintains year-to-date gains
  Oil prices are trading up about 25% so far this year as heightened tensions in the Middle East drove up concerns over prolonged supply disruptions.
  
  The surge in oil prices has fueled increased concerns over a subsequent spike in inflationary pressures, with any prolonged conflict expected to factor into higher price pressures across the globe.
  "U.S. energy prices have remained relatively stable over the past year, even in an uncertain fiscal and geopolitical climate. This is all a testament to the good work of the current administration, and a reading of -1.5% in January’s CPI release is surefire proof they have kept the inflationary pressures in energy, largely, at bay," Orynbayev said.
  "However, at its core, conflict is inflationary, and that is especially true in regard to one involving a region responsible for 30% of the world’s crude. Pressures on oil are already at a high, and further concerns will arise if the Strait of Hormuz continues to halt supply," he said.
  "Given this uncertainty, we cannot escape the fact that oil could extend beyond $120 per barrel – nobody has a crystal ball, of course, but we must remain vigilant to further disruption," Orynbayev added.

  Iverson eFuels is a project developer, jointly established by global green hydrogen producer Hy2gen and Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
  
  This decision was prompted by the withdrawal of allocated grid capacity and uncertainty over future grid access, according to the company.
  
  Iverson’s green ammonia project at the Birkeland industrial site in Sauda was allocated 270 megawatts (MW) of hydropower-based grid capacity to power onsite green hydrogen electrolysis.
  
  But Norwegian state-owned grid operator Statnett withdrew the project's allocated grid capacity in December 2025, after development fell over two years behind schedule.
  
  “Statnett has stated that new capacity may only become available once the upgraded grid is completed, expected in the period 2033–2035. At the same time, there is no guarantee as to when the upgraded grid will be ready,” the company explained.
  
  The project’s final targeted ammonia production capacity had not been disclosed. But ENGINE reported last year that part of the output was expected to be allocated to marine bunkering, alongside other sectors.

  Brent futures fell $4.17, or 4.2%, to $94.79 a barrel at 0345 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was down $3.81, or 4%, to $90.96 a barrel. Both the contracts fell as much as 11% earlier before paring some losses.
  Oil surged past $100 a barrel on Monday to hit their highest since mid-2022, as supply cuts by Saudi Arabia and other producers during the expanding U.S.-Israeli war with Iran stoked fears of major disruptions to global supplies.
  Prices later retreated after Russian President Vladimir Putin held a call with Trump and shared proposals aimed at a quick settlement to the Iran war, according to a Kremlin aide, easing concerns about a prolonged supply disruption.
  Trump said on Monday in a CBS News interview that he thinks the war against Iran "is very complete" and that Washington was "very far ahead" of his initial four- to five-week estimated timeframe.
  "Clearly Trump’s comments about a short-lived war has calmed markets. While there was an overreaction to the upside yesterday, we think there is an overreaction to the downside today," said Suvro Sarkar, energy sector team lead at DBS Bank, adding that the market is underappreciating risks at these levels for Brent.
  
  "Murban and Dubai grades are still well above $100 per barrel, so practically nothing much has changed in terms of ground realities," he added, referring to benchmark Middle Eastern oil grades.
  In response to Trump, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said they would "determine the end of the war," and Tehran would not allow "one litre of oil" to be exported from the region if U.S. and Israeli attacks continued, state media reported on Tuesday, citing the IRGC’s spokesperson.
  Prices, however, remain under pressure as Trump considers easing oil sanctions on Russia and releasing emergency crude stockpiles as part of a package of options aimed at curbing spiking global oil prices, according to multiple sources.
  "Discussions around easing sanctions on Russian oil, comments from Donald Trump hinting that the conflict could eventually de-escalate, and the possibility of G7 countries tapping strategic oil reserves all pointed to the same message - that oil barrels will somehow continue to reach the market," said Phillip Nova analyst Priyanka Sachdeva in a note on Tuesday.
  "Once traders sensed that supply routes could still be maintained, the initial ’panic premium’ that had pushed prices above the $100 mark yesterday started to fade, and oil prices quickly pulled back."
