  Brent futures were down 95 cents, or 1.30%, to $72.00 a barrel at 0119 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was down 54 cents, or 0.78%, at $68.96 a barrel — its lowest since February 27.
  
  "The negotiations that are currently taking place in Qatar are perceived as being positive (and) that has allowed prices to drift further," Saxo Bank analyst Ole Hansen said.
  
  "There is a chance that we could see even lower prices."
  
  Trump said on Wednesday the U.S. was getting along very well with Iran and that recent meetings in Qatar went well.
  
  The U.S. and Iran held technical talks in Doha as they seek to agree on the flow of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and secure a lasting ceasefire, a source with direct knowledge of the talks and an Iranian official said.
  
  Brent fell by around $45 a barrel in the second quarter of this year, its largest quarterly drop since the global financial crisis in 2008. U.S. crude futures, meanwhile, fell by around $31, their largest quarterly decline since 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic crushed global oil demand.
  
  The falls followed progress towards ending the Middle East conflict, after sharp gains in March triggered by the outbreak in hostilities.
  
  Following five straight monthly increases, analysts have cut their 2026 oil price forecasts for the first time since the Iran war began, as the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz eased concerns over prolonged supply disruptions, a Reuters poll showed.
  
  Tanker traffic through the critical waterway has started to recover, with U.S. Vice President JD Vance saying that oil flows through the strait had returned to pre-war levels.
  
  Meanwhile, OPEC+ oil-producing countries will likely agree a further hike in their output targets from August when they meet on Sunday, three sources said on Wednesday, adding to supply at a time of falling prices amid the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
  
  Oil prices appear to have settled into a new range of $72 to $75 a barrel, although the market has yet to fully normalise and the conflict in the Middle East continues to create uncertainty, Brazilian state-run oil firm Petrobras’ CEO Magda Chambriard told Reuters.
  
  Elsewhere, markets are awaiting official U.S. oil stock data from the Energy Information Administration, which will be released at 10:30 a.m. EDT (1430 GMT).   Brent futures rose 33 cents, or 0.45%, to $73.28 a barrel at 0339 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude climbed 34 cents, or 0.49%, to $69.84 a barrel.
  
  "Hormuz continues to reopen but it’s patchy, unpredictable, and not fully transparent ... Unless there is a fresh understanding between Washington and Tehran, the market may wait and watch for sustained peace and quiet before crude resumes bearish momentum," said Vandana Hari, founder of oil market analysis provider Vanda Insights.
  
  U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Doha for what the White House described as "high level" talks on Tuesday, but Iran and host Qatar said they would meet with mediators, rather than the Iranians themselves.
  
  Qatar said Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani was among those to meet with Witkoff and Kushner.

  - Reaching 59 transits, June 24 has marked the highest number of Hormuz crossings since US-Iran MoU was signed, with traffic slowing down following last week’s attack on a cargo ship and weekend strikes on Iranian territory.
  - This week’s daily transit rates hover around 20-25 ships per day, however nowadays most of Hormuz movement is inbound rather than outbound, suggesting shippers await safer days to pass through the strait.
  - Longer delays in the pace of re-opening could derail plans of Middle Eastern producers as both Kuwait and Iraq have been massively ramping up their oil production over the past week, to 70-75% of pre-war levels.
  
  - Global crude on water - the aggregate number of oil that is currently loaded onto tankers – has jumped to its highest since the start of US-Iran hostilities this week, reaching 1.29 billion barrels.

  - France’s TotalEnergies (NYSE:TTE) and the UK’s BP (NYSE:BP) have each taken a 10% stake in the UAE’s Bab Gas Cap project operated by ADNOC, supporting the UAE’s plan to become self-sufficient in natural gas production.
  
  - Italy’s ENI (BIT:ENI) and the ADNOC’s investment arm XRG have signed a deal for three exploration blocks in Argentina’s Vaca Muerta basin, with both taking a 32% stake in the fields that are assumed to feed the upcoming Argentina LNG project.

  With the Hormuz still half-open, the oil markets are increasingly pricing in a period of summer volatility. The resumption of missile attacks between the US and Iran has not helped shippers to deflate war risk premiums and insurance costs, yet flows out of the Gulf continue to trend higher than they were before the signing of the MoU. ICE Brent has gained more than $1 per barrel so far this week, trending above $73 per barrel, a new flashy headline could send oil prices in any direction now.
  
  Iran Makes Hormuz a One-Lane Strait. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has announced that it would allow ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz only if they use the northern route closest to its coast during the current 60-day ceasefire period, asking Oman to redirect all vessels towards Iran’s coast.
  
  Beijing Paves the Way for Export Freedom. Chinese authorities have lifted restrictions on some refined products exports this week, partially rolling back the export ban introduced March 12, as state-controlled refiners were allowed to export gasoline and diesel freely from July onwards.
  
  Extreme Heat Lifts Henry Hub Prices. US natural gas futures jumped above $3.3 per MMBtu for the first time since February this week, lifted by forecasts of heatwaves in the country’s northeast with New York expecting record temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit this Thursday and Friday.

  Clampdown Rocks Iraq’s Oil Industry. Iraq’s new prime minister Ali al Zaidi has launched an anti-corruption investigation that saw the arrests of deputy oil minister Ali al-Bahadli (already under US sanctions) and several top-ranking officials at the ministry, accused of misappropriating public funds.
  
  Japan to Announce New Energy Strategy. Caught flat-footed by the Hormuz crisis, the Japanese government now plans to revamp its energy strategy with a new plan expected by end-August, pledging to boost energy resilience and expedite decarbonization, seen as a pro-nuclear move.
  
  Pakistan Buys the Promptest LNG Available. Pakistan's state-owned Pakistan LNG has bought an extremely prompt cargo of LNG from Qatar, for a June 30 to July 4 delivery, at a $16.74/MMBtu price, some $2/MMBtu above the market price, as the Asian nation faces summer blackouts.
  
  Cyprus’ Gas Hopes Buoyed by Commercial Find. US oil major ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM) declared commerciality on the Glaucus and Pegasus offshore gas discoveries, with combined reserves estimated at 8-9 TCf, expecting an FID on those projects in 2029 and first production by 2033.
  
  EU to Impose New Steel Import Quotas. The European Commission unveiled new steel import quotas to protect the region’s industry from global overcapacity, slashing the tally of tariff-free import quotas by 47% to 18.3 million metric tonnes and adding a new 50% duty on steel products.

  As of Jun. 30, the MABUX Market Differential Index (MDI), which measures the spread between Market Bunker Prices (MBP) and the MABUX Digital Bunker Benchmark (DBP) — indicated the following developments across the four major global bunkering hubs: Rotterdam, Singapore, Fujairah, and Houston:
  
  • HSFO segment: Rotterdam, Singapore and Houston were undervalued, with discounts widening by $7, $12 and $25, respectively. Fujairah remained the only overvalued port, although its premium narrowed by $22. Singapore's MDI once again exceeded the $100 threshold.
  
  • VLSFO segment: Rotterdam, Singapore and Fujairah continued to be overvalued. Premiums decreased by $7, $2, and $59, respectively. Houston remained the only undervalued port, with its discount widening by $14. Fujairah's MDI remained above the $100 threshold.
  
  • MGO LS segment: Rotterdam, Singapore, and Houston stayed undervalued, with discounts widening by $21, $12, and $30, respectively. Fujairah remained overvalued, with its premium decreasing by $39. MDI values in all four ports continued to exceed the $100 threshold.
  
  MABUX expects the Global bunker market to continue trading sideways on Jul. 01: plus-minus 5-10 USD/MT, VLSFO: plus-minus 5–10 USD/MT, MGO LS: plus-minus 5–10 USD/MT.
