  As of 08:10 ET (12:10 GMT), Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, had risen by 1.6% to $90.46 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures had added 2.1% to $85.37 per barrel.

  Ship-tracking data showed a modest uptick in tanker movements through the Strait of Hormuz, easing some concerns over a prolonged disruption to one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
  
  "Though still in single digits (tanker crossings), there are also reports that the shuttling of oil across the strait has resumed. This will not be detected by tracking data, given that transponders will be turned off," ING analysts said in a note.
  
  Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia held talks with representatives from 43 countries on forming a maritime coalition to safeguard shipping in and around the Red Sea, to counter a blockade imposed by Iran-backed Houthi militants last week.
  
  Prices also appeared to be supported after an exchange of strikes between the U.S. and Iran in recent days, as well as indications that the war may be expanding to include other countries in the region, including Egypt. An unidentified drone struck gas vessels at Egypt’s Damietta port near the Suez Canal on Wednesday, triggering fires and raising concerns that another critical energy transit route could come under threat.
  
  The incident heightened worries over shipping through both the Suez Canal and the nearby SUMED pipeline, both key routes for crude and refined fuel moving from the Middle East to Europe. Elsewhere, Iran-backed Houthi militants have intensified threats against shipping in the Red Sea.
  
  Attacks on refineries across the Middle East and Russia have tightened supplies of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, keeping refining margins near record highs despite crude remaining below historic peaks.
  
  At the same time, U.S. crude inventories posted a much larger-than-expected decline, reinforcing concerns over tightening supplies.
  
  Data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Wednesday showed commercial crude stockpiles fell by 7.2 million barrels to 404.5 million barrels in the week ended July 24.

  Brent futures fell $1.03, or 1.2%, to $88 a barrel by 0215 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude slipped $1.50, or 1.8%, to $82.09 a barrel. On a monthly basis, both benchmarks were set to rise about 20%.
  
  Crude oil is edging lower as rising tension Middle East tension is being offset by signs of increased flows in the Strait of Hormuz, said Daniel Hynes, analyst at ING.
  
  The strait, which usually carries about a fifth of global shipments of crude oil and liquefied natural gas, has been a focal point for oil markets as it has been largely blockaded since the February 28 launch of the U.S.-Israel war on Iran.
  
  Saudi Arabia seeks to lead a coalition to boost defence cooperation in the Bab El-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, all chokepoints for energy supplies.
  
  The Saudi defence ministry said 14 nations, including Djibouti, Egypt, Pakistan, Sudan and Turkey, were in support of the multinational maritime defence coalition.
  
  Iran-aligned Houthi militants in Yemen declared a naval blockade last week on Saudi Arabia, threatening the Red Sea route for its oil exports, an alternative to the Strait of Hormuz.
  
  Although tanker traffic has continued through the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, higher security risks have boosted freight costs and insurance premiums to embed a significant geopolitical risk premium in oil prices, said Priyanka Sachdeva, analyst at Phillip Nova.

  Still, the security situation in the Gulf deteriorated overnight after the US launched a new wave of strikes on Iran following attacks on US forces in Jordan. Additionally, reports emerged that a US-owned LNG vessel was struck at an Egyptian port.
  
  Bloomberg cited Kpler data showing that fourteen commodity vessels transited the Hormuz chokepoint in both directions on Wednesday, up from single digits the previous week.
  
  Hormuz shipping bottleneck endures
  
  A four-day pause in US strikes on Iran has done little to restore Middle East Gulf crude exports. Confirmed clearance remained close to recent lows, while Gulf loading activity fell by more than half for the first time in six weeks. The crude backlog has shifted between the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman rather than disappeared. Persistent maritime security risks, war risk insurance costs and Iranian interdiction now appear to be the main barriers. Offshore ship to ship transfers are helping manage inventories, but not expanding export capacity. For energy markets, physical shipping data remain a clearer measure of supply conditions than geopolitical headlines.
  
  Qatar's Al Areesh exited the Persian Gulf carrying the country's first LNG shipment in three weeks, while a supertanker was provisionally booked at nearly $500,000 a day to load Gulf crude for China.
  
  US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said about 6.5 million barrels of oil a day moved through the strait over the past week with US support.
  
  "We are using the United States military to escort out oil and gas out of the Strait of Hormuz,” Wright told Bloomberg Radio, saying about 6.5 million barrels of oil a day exited the Gulf via the strait over the past week. "We are restoring supplies of global oil and refined products to the world out of that region."

  As of Jul. 30, the MABUX Market Differential Index (MDI), which monitors the spread between Market Bunker Prices (MBP) and the MABUX Digital Bunker Benchmark (DBP), recorded the following changes across the four major global bunkering hubs—Rotterdam, Singapore, Fujairah, and Houston:
  
  • HSFO segment: Fujairah was the only overvalued port, with its premium narrowing by $28 and moving closer to the 100% correlation level between MBP and DBP. The other three hubs remained undervalued, with discount margins widening by $33 in Rotterdam, $31 in Singapore and $52 in Houston. Houston's MD stayed above the $100 threshol.
  
  • VLSFO segment: Rotterdam and Houston returned to the undervalued zone, with discount margins widening by $52 and $39, respectively. Singapore and Fujairah remained overvalued, although premium levels declined by $60 in Singapore and $43 in Fujairah. Houston's MDI moved closer to the 100% correlation level.
  
  • MGO LS segment: All four ports continued to be undervalued. Discount margins widened by $59 in Rotterdam, $54 in Singapore, $64 in Fujairah and $55 in Houston. MDI values in all four ports remained well above the $100 threshold, indicating persistent underpricing relative to the digital benchmark.
  
  MABUX expects the Global bunker market may enter a slight downward correction on Jul. 31: 380 HSFO: minus 3-10 USD/MT, VLSFO: minus 5–12 USD/MT, MGO LS: minus 5–20 USD/MT.
