  Trump had earlier vowed to enforce a Tuesday night deadline for Iran to agree to a ceasefire deal or face broad attacks on power plants and other critical infrastructure.
  "The entire country can be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night," he told a White House press conference.
  U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told the briefing that the largest volume of strikes since day one of the operation against Iran would take place on Monday and warned Tuesday would have even more.
  Trump, joined by senior national security advisers, described in detail the operation to recover a downed American airman over the weekend from Iranian territory.
  He said the unidentified airman was hiding in mountains and kept climbing in order to improve the chances for recovery. "It was like finding a needle in a haystack," Trump said.
  Hundreds of American forces were involved in the search and recovery mission and to prevent the Iranians from finding him first, he said.
  CIA director John Ratcliffe, who joined Trump at the event, said the agency had engaged in a "deception campaign" to convince the Iranians the airman was somewhere else.
  Ratcliffe said that on Saturday morning the CIA got confirmation that "one of America’s best and bravest was alive and concealed in a mountain crevice, still invisible to the enemy, but not to the CIA."
  The pilot, shot down on Friday, was recovered on Sunday morning.
  "In a breathtaking show of skill and precision, lethality and force, America’s military descended on the area, the real area, engaged the enemy, rescued the stranded officer, destroyed all threats and exited Iranian territory while taking no casualties of any kind," Trump said.

  The port authority hosted this trial in collaboration with tanker operator Stolt Tankers, tank storage firm Vopak and oil company Indian Oil. However, the companies have not disclosed the physical supplier for the operation.
  
  Kandla port has been handling an average of around 120,000 mt/month of grey methanol as cargo “with a well-established system of methanol handling and storage including storage tanks, pipelines and jetties,” methanol expert, Gregory Dolan said.
  
  The port authority has also recently adopted a methanol bunkering manual and standard operating guidelines, Dolan said.
  
  Two fuel producers are also setting up green methanol production facilities at the port.
  
  Indian conglomerate Thermax is planning a 5 mt/day bio-methanol plant and state-owned Assam Petrochemicals is planning a 150 mt/day e-methanol plant.
  
  Project timelines have not been announced, but Dolan suggested that the product could be used for bunkering.

  Global Fuel Shortage Pushes Governments Toward Demand Controls

WTI, normally trading at a discount to Brent crude, moved higher than the North Sea-focused benchmark. Traders explained it with fears of tight supply in the immediate term and some relief later this year. Some, however, doubt this relief would come soon enough to avoid something few like to talk about: demand destruction.
  
  Indonesia has started rationing fuel, capping daily fuel purchases to 50 liters per car for private consumers and sending civil servants to work from home to conserve fuel. Thailand is preparing its own fuel rationing plans. In Bangladesh, rations are in effect, universities have closed, and the country is nevertheless close to running out of fuel, as it imports 95% of what it consumes.
  
  The rationing is spreading to Europe as well. Slovenia became the first European country to impose fuel rations at the same 50-liter level as Indonesia. In fairness, this amount of fuel for personal use on a daily basis is not really a meaningful ration since very few people consume a full tank of gasoline or diesel on a daily basis unless they travel for work purposes. But the move could be seen as symbolic, and the start of demand management measure should the fuel supply situation get worse, which is quite likely.
  
  In mid-March, Kpler reported that the cumulative oil production losses from the U.S.-Israel war against Iran had reached 133 million barrels. Daily production was down by 10.7, which could reach 11.5 million barrels daily by the end of the month—and quite likely did. But as the war continues, oil supply losses would only grow. If hostilities are not over by the end of this month, the losses may well reach the amount that the International Energy Agency said it would release to fill the supply gap, namely 400 million barrels.
  
  Meanwhile, diesel futures in Europe hit $200 after news broke that three tankers carrying diesel from the United States to Europe had diverted to Asia. Calls have started for fuel rationing in the European Union, and the EU’s energy commissioner just admitted to the Financial Times earlier today that rations are being considered as an option to manage demand for energy in a context of shortages. “This will be a long crisis ... ‌energy prices will be higher for a very long time,” Dan Jorgensen told the FT.
  
  Demand destruction is a concept that the oil and gas industry is quite familiar with and has every reason to dislike. Demand gets destroyed either when an unexpected event forces people to stop consuming oil and gas, or when the price becomes too high, making oil and gas simply unaffordable. The first scenario played out in 2020 when the world went into lockdown to avoid mass infection with COVID-19. The second is playing out right now. With over 11 million barrels daily in lost physical oil supply and a solid portion of the world’s natural gas supply, both are getting a lot more expensive than most consumers could stomach, and demand will start declining.
  
  Bloomberg’s Javier Blas said in a recent column that the introduction of measures to destroy demand on purpose was the fourth step in the response to lost supply from industry and politicians after releasing fuel from stockpiles, rerouting whatever supply can be rerouted, and, as step three, more releases from stockpiles. The demand destruction step could take two forms: deliberate, guided by governments, or spontaneous, governed by market fundamentals. Blas argues that the latter form is the worse option because of its impact on the economy. Yet the first form is no more sparing for the economy: it is simply a matter of managed versus unmanaged disaster.
  
  According to Blas, the world would need to reduce oil demand by a minimum of 8 million barrels daily. Measures suggested so far, by the International Energy Agency and the EU, include lower speed limits on highways, work from home, public transport instead of personal vehicle use, and car sharing plus boosts in fuel efficiency. These will not be enough even if implemented flawlessly, which is already doubtful. And this means that what we will probably see in terms of demand destruction would be a combination of deliberate and spontaneous shifts in demand, which will inevitably hurt the economy, wherever they take place.
  
  At that stage, the question will become how long the damage will last, but we have not reached that stage yet. Per analysts, the return to normal would take between three and six months—once the war ends. The longer the bombing continues, the further away those three to six months move, and they also extend, because shut-in oil wells take longer to restart the longer you keep them shut-in.   As of Apr. 03, the MABUX Market Differential Index (MDI) — which tracks the spread between Market Bunker Prices (MBP) and the MABUX Digital Bunker Price Benchmark (DBP), showed irregular dynamics without a clear trend across the main global hubs — Rotterdam, Singapore, Fujairah, and Houston:
  
  • HSFO segment: Houston shifted back into the undercharge zone, becoming the only underpriced port, with the discount widening by $122. The remaining ports stayed overcharged, although premiums declined by $54 in Rotterdam, $57 in Singapore, and $62 in Fujairah.
  
  • VLSFO segment: Rotterdam moved into the undercharge zone, emerging as the sole underpriced port, with its discount expanding by $58. Singapore, Fujairah, and Houston remained overcharged, with premiums narrowing by $73, $76, and $123 respectively. Notably, Houston’s MDI approached full (100%) correlation between MBP and DBP.
  
  • MGO LS segment: Rotterdam also became the only underpriced port, with the undercharge increasing by $107. The other hubs continued to show overpricing, though the degree of overvaluation declined by $147 in Singapore, $37 in Fujairah, and $86 in Houston.
  
  Market volatility remains elevated amid the continued escalation of tensions in the Middle East and persistent disruptions across global oil supply chains, which have led to a tightening bunker fuel availability. Against this backdrop, we expect global bunker indices to maintain an upward trajectory on April 6: 380 HSFO: plus 3–7 USD/MT, VLSFO: plus 5–10 USD/MT, MGO LS: plus 15–35 USD/MT.

Read more Europe is making a push for a robust homegrown offshore wind sector at the same time that the United States is gutting its own. The world's largest wind farm, currently under construction in the North Sea, made major progress on March 26 when it successfully connected its first export cable from the seabed to the coast of the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, France plans to auction off 10 offshore and floating wind projects with a combined capacity of 12 gigawatts by 2027 as part of a ‘Made in Europe’ initiative.
  
  In the UK, the connection of the undersea cable for the massive Hornsea 3 offshore wind project marks a significant milestone for the offshore wind capacity and for European collaboration on making a more independent and autonomous energy industry. The project, which will benefit consumers in the United Kingdom, is being headed by Ørsted, a company from Denmark, while the cable installation is being carried out by Belgium’s Jan De Nul Group. When finished in 2027, the project will have a power generation capacity of 2.9 gigawatts, enough to power 3.3 million homes.
  
  “Hornsea 3 will be a cornerstone in achieving the UK government’s climate and clean energy targets while increasing energy independence and creating local jobs,” Duncan Clark, Head of Ørsted UK & Ireland, was quoted by Interesting Engineering. “It will make a significant contribution towards the UK Government’s ambitious target of 50 GW of offshore wind by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.”
  
  It will also help to increase the United Kingdom and Europe’s energy independence, a pressing issue in today’s geopolitical climate. In France, the upcoming tenders for offshore wind energy will prioritize local supply chains. “We want these bids to be done as much as possible with our technologies, our factories, our employees,” said French Finance Minister Roland Lescure. “This is a long-term strategy to secure our industrial supply chains,” he continued.
  
  The push for homegrown offshore wind comes as a part of the bloc’s larger energy security strategy, which has been kicked into overdrive by the current global energy crisis reverberating out of the Strait of Hormuz. The current crisis marks the third time in four years that European energy markets have been kneecapped by their dependence on global supply chains to keep the lights on. European leaders are determined to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.
  
  Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, the United States is taking a completely different approach to energy security. Instead of diversifying domestic energy production in the interest of building up resilience to global market shocks, the United States is piling all of its eggs back into the petro-basket. In fact, the Trump administration is paying a French company TotalEnergies $1 billion to abandon offshore wind projects that could have generated over 4 GW of clean power. Instead, that money will be channeled into oil and gas.
  
  “When the Trump administration came to power and began setting U.S. energy policy, we said that we’ll have to reconsider, clearly, these offshore wind project developments,” says Patrick Pouyané, the CEO of TotalEnergies. However, this doesn’t mean that they will be backing off of offshore wind development entirely. “To be clear, we don’t renounce onshore wind,” Pouyané went on to say. “We continue to invest in onshore solar, onshore wind, batteries [in other countries].”
  
  Few examples more accurately and powerfully capture the growing divide in energy policy between the United States and Europe. While Europe tries to shore up energy autonomy and independence through renewables, the United States is targeting energy dominance through fossil fuels.   The Strait carries roughly 20% of global oil supply. Traffic through the waterway has been severely disrupted as Iranian threats, vessel attacks, and collapsing insurance coverage have curtailed tanker movements. Tanker flows have stalled, and crude and product markets have repriced sharply higher as a result.
  
  “With a little more time, we can easily OPEN THE HORMUZ STRAIT, TAKE THE OIL, & MAKE A FORTUNE,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding the move would be a “gusher” for the world.
  
  The comments add to a series of mixed signals from Washington on how—or whether—it intends to restore flows through the Strait. Earlier statements suggested the U.S. would not take the lead in securing the passage, instead calling on other countries to act.
  
  The operational reality remains unchanged. The Strait is not blocked by a single obstacle that can be cleared quickly. It is a live conflict zone. Missile and drone strikes have targeted tankers, ports, and energy infrastructure across the region. Iran has threatened to continue to strike assets linked to U.S. interests, including energy and logistics networks.
  
  Even after the Strait reopens, flows are unlikely to resume immediately. Shipping insurance, security risks, and physical damage to infrastructure would continue to disrupt the flow.

  The Malta-flagged CMA CGM Kribi, which openly broadcasts its French ownership, transited the Strait of Hormuz between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, according to vessel-tracking data monitored by Bloomberg.
  
  Data on MarineTraffic showed that CMA CGM Kribi was in the Oman Gulf as of 12 p.m. CET.
  
  The container vessel departed from offshore Dubai toward Iran on Thursday afternoon local time and stuck close to the Iranian coast. The ship moved through the Iranian islands Qeshm and Larak in the Strait of Hormuz and its signal on Friday indicated it was offshore Muscat in the Gulf of Oman.
  
  The vessel has indeed transited the Strait of Hormuz, two sources with knowledge of the situation told Bloomberg.
  
  French shipping giant CMA CGM, majority-owned by the Saade family, is understood to have coordinated the transit with Iranian maritime authorities, Euronews reported.
  
  Approached by reporters from the Financial Times, France's foreign ministry declined to say if France had played a role in facilitating the passage of the CMA CGM Kribi.
  
  Iran selectively allows certain ships to transit the world's most critical oil chokepoint, through which 20% of daily global oil and LNG passed before the war. Most vessels that have transited the Strait of Hormuz so far have been bound to India, China, Thailand, Pakistan, and other countries in Asia, and have owners in Asia.
  
  The passing of the CMA CGM container ship through the Strait of Hormuz is the first known transit of a vessel linked to Western Europe since the war began at the end of February.
  
  In recent days, France and the UK have been spearheading international efforts to seek diplomatic and international pressure ways to re-open the Strait of Hormuz.
