  The vessels are currently under construction and are scheduled to enter service on the Rotterdam-Oslo short-sea freight corridor by 2027. Norwegian company LH2 Shipping is developing onboard liquid hydrogen propulsion systems for the vessels.
  
  As part of the project, LH2 Shipping will also design, build and operate quayside bunkering infrastructure to supply the vessels, supporting plans to establish a green shipping corridor between the two ports.
  
  The project aims to generate operational experience with liquid hydrogen in short-sea shipping while supporting the commercial rollout of zero-emission freight transport.
  
  The project will "connect vessel technology, hydrogen supply and port infrastructure in a real operating environment" to promote broader adoption of hydrogen-powered shipping across Europe, said Jeroen Hollebrands, head of newbuilding and projects at Samskip.
  
  Meanwhile, Norwegian Hydrogen will supply green hydrogen for the vessels from its 3,500 mt/year green hydrogen production facility in Rjukan. The plant will also include liquefaction, storage and bunkering infrastructure, with production expected to begin in 2028. Source: Engine.online

  Concerns that accelerating inflation could soften oil demand weighed on the market and pressured prices.
  
  Brent futures fell 6 cents, or 0.08%, to $76.24 a barrel by 0125 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude lost 4 cents, or 0.06%, to $72.04.
  
  For the week, Brent was set for a 6% gain and WTI was headed for a 5% increase.
  
  Iranian armed forces launched attacks on U.S. military infrastructure in Gulf states on Thursday following U.S. strikes on Iran’s southern coastal and eastern provinces, further straining a three-week-old ceasefire. Separately, Iranian media reported multiple explosions across southern Iran, including Bushehr, where one of the country’s nuclear plants is located.
  
  The renewed fighting came the day that Iran buried its slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the culmination of a week of mass funeral processions and rallies. Khamenei was killed on the first day of the war on February 28.
  
  The conflict has delayed the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway that about 20% of daily global oil and gas supplies passed through before the war.
  
  "Despite the U.S. ramping up attacks on military sites in Iran, the market drew some reassurance from the Trump administration’s decision to avoid targeting Iranian energy infrastructure," said Daniel Hynes, the senior commodity strategist for ANZ bank.
  
  "This was aided by comments from President Trump, who said he doesn’t expect a return to a full-scale conflict."
  
  U.S. President Donald Trump had said on Wednesday he did not think the war would restart and that "anything that happens is going to be over very quickly."
  
  In the U.S., the number of Americans filing claims for unemployment benefits fell last week, indicating that the labor market remained in a "slow-hire, slow-fire" mode.

  The two tankers were hit in Taganrog Bay, the northeastern arm of the Sea of Azov in the southern Russian Rostov region.
  
  Yury Slyusar, the governor of the region of Rostov, posted on Telegram early on Thursday that two tankers were hit in the Taganrog Bay. The vessels suffered “mechanical damage” and caught fire, while no injuries or casualties were reported by the Russian authorities.
  
  The hits on the two tankers, which were en route to deliver fuel to southern Russia, which is reeling from shortages, suggest the expanding scope of Ukraine’s attacks on Russian fuel supply infrastructure.
  
  Ukraine is now targeting fuel supply routes and vessels, alongside a persistent campaign to hit Russian refineries and force them out of operation.
  
  Earlier this week, Ukraine hit Russia’s biggest refinery, Gazprom Neft’s Omsk refinery, which halted operations after a Ukrainian drone strike damaged key processing units at the 440,000-barrel-per-day facility. The refinery is Russia’s largest gasoline producer, making the timing particularly painful for the Kremlin.
  
  The latest strike comes as Ukraine continues expanding its long-range drone campaign against Russia's refining network. What began with attacks on export terminals and refineries near the front has steadily moved deeper into Russian territory. Omsk, in western Siberia, sits thousands of kilometers from Ukraine.
  
  The strike is another blow to Russia, where the fuel crisis is in full swing, with even Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledging there is a problem after regional authorities tried to downplay the issue for weeks.
  
  Two weeks ago, Putin said that following the temporary ban on exports of gasoline and jet fuel, “We are considering a full ban on exports of diesel fuels.”

  The Commission, the EU’s legislative arm, is expected to propose on July 17 a target for the share of electrification, still unspecified, as part of the energy consumption in the bloc by 2040.
  
  “With decisive action at all levels, Europe can become the first electro-continent,” the European Commission said in the document seen by Bloomberg News.
  
  “This profound transformation will require investments and lead to savings and benefits well beyond the energy system, from clean tech manufacturers to the installation sector, from more modern and competitive industries to emissions and pollution reduction in European cities.”
  
  Higher electrification rates could help the EU replace two-thirds of its gas consumption and halve its oil consumption, according to provisional EC estimates in the draft proposal. The expected decline in fossil fuel consumption could reduce the bloc’s energy import bill by a total of $228 billion (200 billion euros), the EC reckons.
  
  The EU’s current electrification rate is about 23% and has been stagnant at around this number for nearly a decade. At the same time, countries like China, Japan, and South Korea have exceeded a 30% electrification rate.
  
  The EU currently has an implicit electrification rate target of 32.5% by 2030, according to estimates by clean energy think tank Ember based on the individual National Energy and Climate Plans.
  
  The EU Electrification Action Plan, expected next week, would contain an “ambitious electrification target,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said earlier this year.
  
  The electrification target is expected to be expressed as a yet-to-be-defined percentage share of energy consumption by 2040, according to the draft document seen by Bloomberg News. Source: Oilprice.com

  “We are taking concrete action to grow long-term value for shareholders: simplifying our portfolio, reducing costs, maintaining tight discipline on capex and strengthening the balance sheet,” O’Neill, the first female CEO of a Big Oil company, wrote in a LinkedIn post to reflect on the first 100 days as top executive of BP.
  
  “We need to be deliberate about where we invest and where we don’t. We need to make fewer, better choices and hold ourselves to account,” O’Neill wrote.
  
  “Investors should be able to rely on us in the same way our customers do,” the executive added.
  
  BP has already simplified its structure by bundling operations into two businesses, Upstream and Downstream, with trading connecting both to create value. Despite the unprecedented disruption in the energy industry in recent months, BP has continued to simplify the company and reduce costs to make the supermajor more attractive to investors, she said.
  
  As part of the portfolio simplification, BP is reportedly considering an exit from the UK North Sea, due to unfavorable taxation policies in Britain.
  
  BP is the last supermajor to haven’t either sold or combined its UK North Sea business in recent years. Shell and Equinor combined their oil and gas assets in a standalone company, Adura. TotalEnergies merged its assets with NEO NEXT to create NEO NEXT+, in which the French supermajor holds a 47.5% interest.

  About 770,000 barrels of Russian crude oil was delivered to Indonesia’s port of Balikpapan at the end of June, per customs data by Big Trade Data cited by Bloomberg.
  
  This was the first shipment of crude oil from Russia to Indonesia since the two countries agreed in April, at peak Hormuz crisis, on a regular supply deal.
  
  Indonesia produces some 600,000 barrels of crude oil per day (bpd), but its consumption is far above that, at around 1.6 million barrels daily.
  
  A lot of Indonesia’s imports of crude oil have typically come from the Middle East. But the Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz disruption forced the biggest economy in Southeast Asia to look for alternative supply, including such from Russia.
  
  “Indonesia’s strategy to diversify its crude import basket with imports from Russia is backed by supply economics, refinery compatibility and medium-term energy security logic, not just opportunism around the Middle East crisis,” Rystad Energy analyst Prateek Panday told the Business Times in April.
  
  Around the same time, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Yuliot Tanjung, said that the country would import 150 million barrels of crude from Russia this year.
  
  The Indonesian Government has secured a strategic cooperation agreement with Russia to strengthen national energy resilience, particularly through crude oil supplies and the development of energy infrastructure, Bahlil Lahadalia, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, said in April.
  
  The follow-up cooperation covers long-term partnerships in the energy sector, including fulfilling national oil needs, the minister added.

Read more While much of the world spent 2025 debating peak oil, the United States was busy setting another production record.
  
  New data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration showed that U.S. crude oil production, including lease condensate, averaged a record 13.6 million barrels per day last year, extending America’s run as the world’s largest crude producer.
  
  That streak began in 2018, when the United States overtook Russia. Since then, shale has done what shale does best: annoy OPEC, defy forecasts, and keep pumping.
  
  The 2025 figure broke the previous U.S. and global production record of 13.2 million bpd set in 2024. It also put U.S. output about 40% above production from Russia and Saudi Arabia, the next two largest crude producers.
  
  The Permian Basin, not unsurprisingly, carried the largest load. Production from Texas and New Mexico rose 4% last year to 6.6 million bpd, which was nearly half of total U.S. crude output.
  
  The record came despite lower prices. WTI averaged $65 per barrel in 2025, down from $77 in 2024, as global oversupply weighed on the market. U.S. operators still managed to squeeze more crude from key shale basins through higher drilling productivity and better efficiency.
  
  That matters even more now.
  
  The 2025 data predates this year’s U.S.-Iran war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. But it helps explain why the U.S. oil industry entered 2026 from a position of unusual strength. The Hormuz crisis has been painful for consumers, with higher crude and gasoline prices feeding political pressure ahead of the midterm elections. For U.S. producers, though, the turmoil has not exactly been a tragedy.
  
  The EIA now expects U.S. crude production to stay near 13.7 million bpd in 2026 before rising to 14.2 million bpd in 2027, helped by stronger prices and continued shale productivity gains.

  Turkey and Iraq are expected to sign a 12-month extension of the agreement governing the Iraq-Turkey crude oil pipeline within days, preventing a July 27 expiration that threatened one of Baghdad's few remaining viable oil export routes.
  
  Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said the agreement is in its final stages and will ensure crude continues flowing from Iraq to the Mediterranean export terminal at Ceyhan.
  
  It's only a one-year extension, but right now that's enough.
  
  Before the Iran war, the pipeline was important. After the Strait of Hormuz effectively shut down for months, it became indispensable.
  
  With most of Iraq's southern exports trapped in the Gulf, Baghdad was forced to slash production, fill storage tanks, and scramble to revive northern export infrastructure that had sat largely idle for years. The Ceyhan route quickly transformed from a secondary export option into one of Iraq's few economic lifelines.
  
  Baghdad has spent recent weeks talking up plans to raise production to 7 million barrels per day within three years while simultaneously courting additional Western investment in its oil sector. None of those ambitions matter much if Iraq can't reliably move crude to market.
  
  The pipeline itself has had a turbulent few years. It remained offline for more than two years after an arbitration court ordered Turkey to pay Baghdad $1.5 billion over unauthorized Kurdish oil exports between 2014 and 2018. Flows only resumed late last year, making the looming expiration of the decades-old transit agreement another unwelcome source of uncertainty.
  
  The extension doesn't solve Iraq's export problem, but it does make it tomorrow’s problem instead of today’s.
  
  Longer term, Baghdad still needs alternatives to Hormuz, expanded pipeline capacity, and a more resilient export network if it hopes to insulate itself from future regional disruptions.
  
  For now, with oil still accounting for roughly 90% of government revenue and export options limited, keeping crude flowing to Ceyhan is a matter of economic survival. Source: Oilprice.com
