  At 08:04 ET (10:04 GMT), Brent Oil Futures rose 3.3% to $78.49 a barrel, while Crude Oil WTI Futures climbed 3.4% to $73.81 a barrel, after both contracts had surged by nearly 5% earlier in the session.

  The latest rally came after Iran on Sunday expanded missile and drone attacks to Gulf states including Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in retaliation for U.S. military strikes.
  
  Tehran also declared the Strait of Hormuz closed after a commercial vessel was hit, intensifying concerns over one of the world’s most critical energy shipping routes.
  
  The U.S. disputed Iran’s claim, with President Donald Trump saying commercial shipping through the waterway remained open under U.S. protection. However, shipping operators adopted a cautious approach, with vessel traffic slowing sharply over the weekend. Ship-tracking data showed just six vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, the lowest level in five weeks, underscoring heightened security concerns.
  
  "Shipping operators are adopting a cautious approach and inbound movements have slowed under heightening security concerns," ANZ analysts said in a note.
  
  ANZ added that crude prices surrendered part of last week’s gains after both Washington and Tehran appeared reluctant to escalate the conflict further, with the U.S. avoiding direct strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure and diplomatic discussions beginning late last week. However, the brokerage warned that weekend attacks and Iran’s renewed declaration that the Strait of Hormuz was closed have again raised doubts over the durability of last month’s interim agreement.
  
  The Strait of Hormuz serves as the primary export route for crude from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf producers. Any sustained disruption could force refiners, particularly in Asia, to seek alternative supplies and push freight and insurance costs higher.
  
  "The recent oil price rally, driven by tanker attacks and renewed U.S.–Iran strikes,n demonstrates how critical Hormuz flows remain for prices in the short-term," Goldman Sachs strategists said in a note.
  
  "However, in the long-term, we estimate that enough pipeline capacity will likely be added in the Mideast region to insulate over 45% of the pre-war level of Persian Gulf producers’ exports by end-2027 and more than 60% by end-2028 from any potential future Hormuz shocks," they added.
  
  Market participants are also watching for any coordinated response from major oil producers or potential releases from strategic petroleum reserves if supply disruptions worsen.
  
  Last week, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in its monthly report that fresh U.S.-Iran hostilities could derail an expected recovery in supply if disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz persist.
  
  The agency said global oil supply rebounded by 4.1 million barrels per day in June as crude flows through Hormuz resumed, although production remained well below pre-conflict levels.
