  Brent crude oil futures were up $1.22, or 1.77%, at $70.02 a barrel by 11:47 a.m. ET (1647 GMT). U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose $1.21, or nearly 1.89%, to $65.17.
  Tension in the Middle East continue to support prices, although there has been no supply disruption so far, said UBS oil analyst Giovanni Staunovo.
  On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was considering sending a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East if a deal is not reached with Iran, even as Washington and Tehran prepared to resume talks.
  U.S. and Iranian diplomats held indirect talks last week in Oman, amid a regional naval buildup by the U.S. threatening Iran. The date and venue of the next round of U.S.-Iran talks have yet to be announced.
  "While rhetoric remains belligerent at times, there are no signs, at least for now, of escalation, and the U.S. President believes that Iran will ultimately want to strike a deal on its nuclear missile programme," PVM Oil Associates analyst Tamas Varga said in a note.
  Also supporting oil prices, U.S. job growth unexpectedly accelerated in January and the unemployment rate fell to 4.3%, the Labor Department said, signaling a healthy economy.
  
  "A resilient labor market underpins demand for transport fuels, petrochemicals and power generation, reducing downside risks to US consumption at a time when macro sentiment had turned cautious," Rystad Energy said in a note, adding that "labor market stability reinforces the view that the demand picture is firming up."
  Limiting price gains, the U.S. crude inventories rose by 8.5 million barrels to 428.8 million barrels last week, the Energy Information Administration said, far exceeding analysts’ expectations in a Reuters poll for a 793,000-barrel rise.
  "Domestic production came back with a vengeance and not that far off the all-time record," said Robert Yawger, director of energy futures at Mizuho.
  In the wider market, OPEC left its supply-demand expectations for the oil market largely unchanged in its monthly report, but highlighted that global oil demand for the wider group’s crude will drop by 400,000 bpd in the second quarter compared to the first.
  Russian oil production edged down around 0.6% in January from December, per the report.
  Egypt has directed international oil companies to double production by 2030, with existing contracts due to be revised to spur new investment, Energean International’s country manager for Egypt told Reuters on Tuesday.

  Rotterdam’s B100 (POMEME) cost for EU-EU voyages has dropped by $75/mt in the past week. Downward pressures have come from a lower flat price for B100 and a $30/mt increase in its estimated FuelEU pooling value. EU ETS costs have kept steady and are negligible at around $4/mt.
  
  The steep overall price drop for B100 contrasts to $8-15/mt gains for HSFO, VLSFO and LSMGO grades in Rotterdam. B100’s discounts to these conventional fuels have widened by $83/mt to $222-441/mt.
  
  B100’s discounts to LNG have widened by $20-25/mt in the past week. B100 now costs $174/mt less than LNG burnt in a diesel slow speed (diesel SS) engine, and $400/mt less than LNG in an Otto medium speed (Otto MS) engine.
  
  LBM is still the lowest-cost option for EU-EU voyages. 0 gCO2e/MJ LBM bunkered in Rotterdam and consumed in an Otto MS engine is $95/mt cheaper than B100. Consumed in a diesel SS engine, it is $328/mt cheaper.
  
  EU-nonEU voyages
  
  Rotterdam’s B30-VLSFO (POMEME) cost for EU-nonEU voyages has increased by $11/mt on the week, slightly less than conventional VLSFO’s $19/mt gain. That has widened B30-VLSFO’s discount by $8/mt to $31/mt.
  
  In Singapore, B30-VLSFO (UCOME) has surged $37/mt higher, against an $11/mt gain for pure VLSFO. This has flipped B30-VLSFO’s $22/mt discount to VLSFO to a thin $3/mt premium.
  
  Singapore’s B100 (UCOME) cost for EU-nonEU voyages has dropped by $13/mt on the week but is still as high as $1,094/mt as only 50% of the energy of that B100 counts towards FuelEU. HSFO, VLSFO and LSMGO remain at wide discounts of $311-507/mt to B100 on these voyages.
  
  Liquid fuels
  
  Without adjusting for EU regulations, Rotterdam’s VLSFO-equivalent B100 (POMEME) price has dropped by $45/mt to $1,197/mt in the past week. Dutch ZRE A tickets are down by €10/mtCO2e to €155/mtCO2e, adding upward pressure.
  
  Countering downward pressure has come from lower POMEME wholesale prices. Prima Markets has assessed its POMEME CIF ARA barge price down by $36/mt to $1,480/mt.
  
  HSFO and LSMGO prices are up by $16/mt on the week, slightly overshooting a $1.78/bbl ($13.05/mt) front-month ICE Brent rise. Pure VLSFO and B30-VLSFO prices have risen a bit extra, both recording $23/mt gains.
  
  Brent found some support after the European Commission proposed a 20th sanctions package against Russia, a move that could significantly curb Moscow’s energy trade.
  
  Liquid gases
  
  LNG bunker prices have fallen in both Rotterdam and Singapore, pressured down by easing US–Iran tensions.
  
  LNG bunker prices that are VLSFO-equivalent, but not adjusted for EU regulations, have dropped by $41/mt in Rotterdam and $9/mt in Singapore in the past week.
  
  A 9% decline in LNG bunker premiums has weighed on Rotterdam’s price. So has a €3.58/MWh ($65/mt) front-month TTF gas contract decline.

  Brent crude oil futures were up 55 cents, or 0.80%, at $69.35 a barrel by 0356 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 57 cents, or 0.89%, to $64.53.
  "Oil retains a bullish tail-risk bid as US-Iran talks continue but remain fragile, keeping the Strait of Hormuz risk premium supported amid ongoing sanctions pressure, tariff threats tied to Iranian trade, and heightened U.S. regional military posture," LSEG analysts wrote in a report.
  Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday that nuclear talks with the U.S. allowed Tehran to gauge Washington’s seriousness and showed enough consensus to continue on the diplomatic track.
  Diplomats from Iran and the U.S. held talks in Oman last week in an effort to revive diplomacy, after U.S. President Donald Trump positioned a naval flotilla in the region, raising fears of new military action.
  While oil prices first eased after Oman’s foreign minister said discussions tied to the U.S.-Iran talks with Iran’s top security official were productive, hopes of a peaceful resolution were later dashed following reports that the U.S. may send a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East if talks fail, ANZ analysts said in a note.
  Trump said on Tuesday he was considering sending a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East, even as Washington and Tehran prepare to resume negotiations aimed at averting a new conflict.
  
  Also supporting oil prices were signs of easing surplus, as markets absorbed some surplus barrels seen in the last quarter of 2025.
  "With mainstream oil on water returning to normal levels and demand for it in India rising, oil prices are likely to remain supported in the near term," Vortexa market analyst Xavier Tang said.
  Indian refiners are avoiding Russian oil purchases to help New Delhi seal a trade pact with Washington, in turn stepping up purchases of oil from the Middle East and West Africa.
  Traders are also waiting for weekly U.S. oil inventory data from the Energy Information Administration on Wednesday. [EIA/S]
  Analysts polled by Reuters estimated on average that crude inventories rose by about 800,000 barrels in the week to February 6, while distillate and gasoline inventories likely fell by about 1.3 million barrels and 400,000 barrels respectively.

  The Indian Coast Guard has said that it busted on February 6 “an international oil-smuggling racket” in a land and sea operation.
  
  “The syndicate exploited mid-sea transfers in international waters to move cheap oil from conflict-ridden regions to motor tankers, evading duties owed to coastal states,” the Coast Guard added.
  
  The authorities intercepted three suspect vessels west of Mumbai.
  
  “The vessels known to frequently change identity are being escorted to Mumbai for further legal action, reinforcing India’s role as a net provider of maritime security and guardian of the rules-based international order,” the Coast Guard said.
  
  This is the first time India has moved to take action against shadow fleet tankers, sources with knowledge of India’s shipping industry told Bloomberg on Tuesday.
  
  India’s move to seize vessels of the dark fleet follows intensified efforts from Western countries, most of all the U.S. and EU, to act more decisively against shadow vessels making illicit trips to deliver sanctioned oil.
  
  The move also comes as the United States is pressuring India to halt imports of Russian crude oil as part of the U.S.-India trade deal.
  
  Indian refiners are still avoiding Russian oil as deals for delivery in April begin to be made.
  
  India’s largest state-owned refiner, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), has boosted purchases of crude oil from West Africa and the Middle East, as New Delhi steers clear of Russian crude in the wake of the trade deal with the United States.

  Oil prices have edged higher so far in the second trading week of February, with ICE Brent pushing towards $70 per barrel on rising expectations of US-Iran confrontation. After the failure of nuclear talks in Oman to bridge the gap between the two sides, the US Department of Transportation has boosted oil bulls with its guidance to any US-flagged commercial vessels to avoid Iranian waters and decline permission to board if asked. Could this be a prelude to another series of US strikes of Iran?
  
  OPEC+ Output Decline as Oversupply Fears Fade. According to S&P Global, OPEC+ production dipped in January to 42.56 million b/day, a 270,000 b/day decline compared to December levels and the first monthly drop in 13 months, driven by output cuts in Kazakhstan, Russia, Nigeria and Libya.
  
  Venezuela’s Oil Recovers Fully. Venezuela’s PDVSA has reversed most of its production cuts, implemented as precautionary measure vis-à-vis the Trump administration’s pressure policy in November-December, reporting that its oil output in the Orinoco Belt is now close to 1 million b/d.
